James A. Sutherland
Managing Director, Senior Portfolio Manager
Mr. Sutherland joined Sceptre in 1999 as a Portfolio Manager and client service professional for the Private Asset Management Group in Ontario.
In 1984 Mr. Sutherland co-founded and operated Sutherland Investment Corporation and affiliated firms offering mutual fund and insurance products. In 1991 he joined GBC Asset Management Inc. to market its no-load mutual fund family. Prior to joining Sceptre he was a Senior Vice-President at KPMG Investment Advisory Services where he worked with high-net-worth clients to determine optimum investment management solutions.

D. Walter McCormick, CFA
Managing Director, Senior Portfolio Manager
Walter McCormick joined Sceptre in 2007 as Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager. Prior to that, he was a Senior Vice-President and Senior Portfolio Manager responsible for the management of the Private Client Group at Legg Mason Canada, which Sceptre acquired in 2007. He is responsible for providing investment management services to Sceptre's high net worth clients in Ontario.
Walter began his career in 1980 as an Investment Advisor with Burns Fry Ltd. In 1988 he joined Burns Fry Investment Management as a Portfolio Manager and Vice-President. Walter joined MT Associates, the predecessor to Legg Mason Canada, in 1991 and continued to work with high net worth individuals.

W. Brian Carter, CFA
Senior Portfolio Manager
Mr. Carter joined Sceptre in 2007 as a Senior Portfolio Manager. Prior to joining Sceptre, Mr. Carter was a Vice-President & Portfolio Manager of Legg Mason Canada’s Private Client Group, which was acquired by Sceptre in 2007. He is responsible for providing investment management services to Sceptre’s high net worth clients in Ontario.
Mr. Carter brings 40 years of experience in the investment industry, including financial analysis, corporate finance, and investment management of mutual funds, pension funds and private client portfolios. His first six years in the industry were with United Funds Management, then Canada’s second largest mutual fund company. This was followed by 21 years with Loewen, Ondaatje, McCutcheon & Co., a leading institutional research company. For the past 14 years, Mr. Carter has been providing investment management services to private clients, most recently with Legg Mason Canada Inc.
